Over 700,000 Global Movember Participants Raise Funds and Awareness for Prostate Cancer, Testicular Cancer and Mental Health

The Moustache Continues Raising Funds During #GivingTuesday to Change the Face of Men's Health

LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwired - December 01, 2014) - The Movember Foundation, the leading global organization committed to changing the face of men's health, has announced the conclusion of the 2014 moustache-growing season, with over 700,000 registered Movember participants worldwide. Since inception, Movember has had nearly five million men and women participate, raising over $600 million and counting. The Movember community has once again shined a spotlight on men's health, transcending casual discussions about moustache growth into serious conversations about prostate cancer, testicular cancer and men's mental health.

As Movember participants wrap up their fundraising efforts, they'll make one final call for donations this #GivingTuesday, asking friends, family and supporters to donate to or purchase collaborative merchandise through Movember's online store, with funds going back to the Movember Foundation.

"The Movember community continues to rally together and raise awareness about men's health," said Mark Hedstrom, US Country Director for Movember. "While moustache season is only one month, men's health is a year-round issue and the Movember Foundation is committed to funding first in field research and world-class research and support programs. To all Mo Bros, Mo Sistas, and Mo supporters - thank you for making Movember 2014 one to remember."

This year, the Movember Foundation announced a Movember-funded prostate cancer research breakthrough that will allow patients who have an aggressive form of prostate cancer to receive a more tailored treatment plan, avoiding over-treatment. This project will be a significant game changer for men diagnosed with prostate cancer.

The Movember Foundation also launched True NTH, a $36 million global investment to improve the quality of life for men living with prostate cancer. True NTH has been launched in the U.S., Australia, Canada, and United Kingdom.

Details about the more than 800 programs that Movember has funded can be found on the funded programs page on

  • Prostate Cancer1 in 7 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime. In the US, the Movember Foundation funds world-class research and survivorship programs through our Global Action Plan (GAP), the Prostate Cancer Foundation, True NTH, and the LIVESTRONG Foundation. Through these programs, we are funding first in field, research teams focused on accelerating progress towards the reduction of death and suffering due to recurrent or advanced prostate cancer and programs to support men who have been diagnosed with prostate cancer as well as their families and caregivers.
  • Testicular Cancer: Testicular cancer is the most common cancer in young men aged 15-35 years. For men diagnosed with testicular cancer, we seek to improve their physical and mental health, and reduce mortality. In the US, the Movember Foundation funds have supported our Global Action Plan (GAP) and the LIVESTRONG Foundation's Cancer Navigation Services.
    • Prevention - men and boys are mentally healthy and take action to remain so
    • Early intervention - when men and boys experience mental health problems they take action early
    • Stigma reduction - men and boys with mental health problems are not discriminated against
  • Mental Health: Men are 4 times more likely to die by suicide than women. The Movember Foundation has funded mental health programs in Australia since 2006, New Zealand since 2008, and Canada since 2012. Movember Foundation has partnered with the Prevention Institute to develop a detailed landscape report on the current state of mental health for American men and boys. Through this partnership, Movember will create programs that meet men and boys where they are, in their community, to promote resilience across generations. Movember is focused on the these key areas in mental health:

Since 2003, the Movember community of nearly 5 million men and women have grown, or supported the growth of a moustache, raising over $600 million dollars, which directly funds over 800 programs in 21 countries. To date, over 675,000 registered men and women in the US have sparked conversations and raised more than $71 million for prostate cancer, testicular cancer and mental health problems.
