Is finding a last minute gift idea for someone special giving you a headache? Now there's a solution available at your local Shoppers Drug Mart. No - it's not in the painkiller aisle. It's a new gift card from Oxfam Canada. Oxfam's gift card can be used to purchase goats, chickens, donkeys and other essential supplies for families living in poverty while honouring your friends and family too. It's available exclusively at Shoppers Drug Marts across the country, excluding Ontario and Quebec.

The new card is a component of Oxfam's highly successful Oxfam Unwrapped program where consumers can purchase gifts online to make a difference for women and men living in poverty around the world.

"Creating this first ever charitable retail card was a great way for us to engage new audiences," says Nicole Salmon, Director of Development for Oxfam Canada, "Now people searching for a gift card as a last minute present for someone can choose something fun to give, while, at the same time, their donation will help fund our programs for families overseas."

The Oxfam gift card retails for $58 - the average cost of delivering a goat to a needy family in the developing world. When the card recipient goes online to redeem their gift card, they can choose from a wide range of virtual gifts including: mosquito nets, literacy kits and even tools to help farmers.

Stephen Thomas Limited, a Canadian marketing agency that works exclusively with charities, created the campaign. President and CEO of Stephen Thomas, Neil Gallaiford states: "We believe Oxfam will find lots of new donors by entering the retail channel with such a new initiative. Canadians love gift cards and I'm sure they will especially love this one."

Oxfam Canada, founded in 1963, is a non-governmental aid organization that works with partner organizations in over 20 countries around the world. The organization tackles the root causes of poverty and inequity and helps women and men living in poverty find creative and long-lasting solutions to the problems that face their families and their communities.
