Yorkdale Shopping Centre announces today that construction has begun on a major $42 million renovation. This latest renovation plan follows a very successful $60 million expansion completed in April 2005 which saw growth in customer traffic and sales volume, making 2005 the most successful year in Yorkdale's four decade history.

The renovations will be consistent with those of the 2005 expansion using the same design elements and premium finishes and materials, with a range of flooring, ceiling and lighting system upgrades.

Additional features of the renovations will include:

- Stylish, low-profile hard and soft-seating, providing additional customer comfort

- Renovated washrooms outside the redeveloped area, and new washrooms at the west entrance

- Automatic sliding doors will replace swing doors at all entrances, providing easier access for customers

- An 8,000 square foot Moxie's restaurant with 300 seats will be added, giving patrons more dining options

- Thoughtful way-finding, and additional visual elements allowing retailers to communicate their individual style and brand image

Construction began in January 2006 and project completion is scheduled for fall 2007. The renovations will be suspended over the holiday 2006 period to minimize disruption to shoppers. MMC International Architects is the prime consultant, and the general contactor is Ellis Don.

Yorkdale Shopping Centre, located at Hwy. 401 and Dufferin St., offers more than 240 shops and services.

- Higher ceilings and skylights to create an open, airy feel

- Warm and inviting rest areas with new interior landscaping and ample seating for shoppers

- Updated lighting treatments for enhanced ambience

- Contemporary finishes and upgrades such as porcelain and marble tile flooring, as well as modern metal finishes mixed with natural materials give a facelift to the centre as a whole

The $32 million renovation at Square One began in 2004 and is scheduled to finish in 2007 with the completion of Phase Four. The renovations have encouraged several new tenants to join the shopping centre, including H&M, Sephora, Browns Shoes and Marciano.
