Painting and drawing holiday workshop on unique East Coast island

Time to watch whales, hike and kayak too Attention: Arts/Entertainment Editor, Assignment Editor, Lifestyle Editor, Travel/Tourism Editor GRAND MANAN, NEW BRUNSWICK--(CCNMatthews - May 31, 2005) - There is still time to register for one of two art holiday workshops on New Brunswick's Grand Manan Island running July 3-10, and 10-17, and focusing on outdoor watercolour painting and pen and ink drawing. Situated in the entrance to the Bay of Fundy, unspoiled Grand Manan offers a rich treasure of natural wonders and fishing villages that have inspired artists for generations.

Each painting day begins with a demonstration followed by individual attention while participants work on their own, and concludes with a helpful group critique. Picnic lunches are delivered daily to the scenic painting locations. Sessions begin Monday and end Friday, with free time for whale and bird watching, kayaking, hiking, photography or more sketching.

Demonstrations, individual attention and constructive critiques are given by experienced artist Barry Coombs who is noted for his positive and constructive attitude and ability to work with students of all levels of skill and experience. The popular instructor at the Dundas Valley School of Art who exhibits his work in Canada and abroad, also delivers regular classes in his Toronto studio, workshops to community art groups across Ontario, and painting holidays in Mexico.

Participants also enjoy lobster, scallops, garden vegetables and good conversation. The $945 (cdn) fee includes seven nights' accommodation in either a private house overlooking the sea, a cottage or an inn nearby - all charming! The price includes seven breakfasts, five lunches, four dinners, taxes and gratuities, based on single occupancy and shared bathroom with a lower price for doubles (or a non-painting partner). Upgrades are available. Travel costs are extra.
