Wounded Warriors Receive a Las Vegas Vacation and Over-the-Top Tribute in Their Honor

LAS VEGAS, NV--(Marketwire - May 11, 2011) - In celebration of Armed Forces Day, The Palazzo Las Vegas and Southwest Airlines have joined with the Armed Forces Foundation to salute our nation's wounded veterans with a weekend of entertainment, dining and relaxation in Las Vegas beginning May 20.

"The Palazzo Las Vegas and Southwest Airlines are rolling out the red carpet to treat these service members to a Las Vegas VIP weekend," said Patricia Driscoll, president and executive director of the Armed Forces Foundation. "We're grateful for these companies hosting this event and even more grateful for the service and sacrifice of these troops."

Southwest Airlines will fly the wounded warriors from military hospitals in Washington D.C. and San Antonio, Texas to Las Vegas where they will be met with a police motorcade to escort them to The Palazzo. A cheering crowd of guests and Palazzo team members will greet the troops at a welcoming reception in the resort's atrium gardens, adorned in red, white and blue.

"With more than 750 Employees who are members of the National Guard and Reserves, Southwest Airlines is excited to be a part of this weekend that honors our country's service members," said Linda Rutherford, Southwest Airlines vice president of communication and strategic outreach. "We're proud to team up with organizations like the Armed Forces Foundation and the Las Vegas Sands Corp. that share our passion for supporting these heroes and their families."

During their stay, the troops will enjoy The Palazzo's lavish accommodations, tours of the Las Vegas Strip, tickets to Blue Man Group at The Venetian and the Tony Award-winning "Jersey Boys," the ultimate sports fan experience at Lagasse's Stadium, gourmet cookout hosted by Omaha Steaks at The Pools of The Palazzo and services at Canyon Ranch SpaClub among others.

"Honoring our veterans is a deep-seated value for our chairman Sheldon Adelson and indeed for our entire company," said Andy Abboud, vice president of government relations for Las Vegas Sands Corp. "For all of us, it's a privilege to have these heroes at The Palazzo and we're grateful for the opportunity to serve them."

The welcome reception will be held at 3 p.m. in The Palazzo's atrium gardens and is open to the public. The troops will depart Las Vegas at 7:15 a.m. on Monday, May 23.

About The Armed Forces Foundation
The Armed Forces Foundation offers vital assistance to active-duty and retired personnel, National Guard, Reserve Components and military families as they cope with difficult circumstances. When a service member sustains combat injuries overseas, they and their family face a long, difficult road to recovery. Spouses must often quit jobs to care for their partner, children cope with parental absence, and financial situations often deteriorate. The moment a soldier arrives at the hospital, the Armed Forces Foundation steps in to assist the family in traveling to his or her side and provides lodging for them to remain there. The foundation then provides financial assistance, supplementing income while the family waits. Through therapeutic recreational and outreach programs, the AFF helps service members through their physical recovery and provides relief from the mental stress of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Through education and advocacy, we fight for better care and treatment for PTSD. All along the way we provide other opportunities as well, sponsoring military family events and Christmas toy drives. The Armed Forces Foundation lives by the motto "Serving those who serve," and, recognizing that families serve too, seeks to provide a well-rounded program of assistance and support for the military family unit.
