MISSISSAUGA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Jan. 22, 2014) - The Palestine House Educational and Cultural Center - Mississauga voiced its deep concern with the speech delivered by Prime Minister Harper to the Israeli Knesset in Jerusalem last Monday January 20th, 2014.
The Palestine House issued the below press release as a response:
"Mr. Harper has constantly taken a one-sided approach to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict resulting in an unprecedented decrease in Canada's influence in the international forum. Palestine House believe that while Prime Minister Harper hailed the government of Israel, describing it as the only democracy in the region, he failed to recognize that the government of Israel continues to undermine international law and the already fragile peace process by continuing to build the separation wall and through its continuous expansion of illegal settlements in the West Bank, not recognising the rights of refugees, continuing to occupy the Palestinian territories and the brutal manner in which the Palestinians are treated daily.
Further Palestine House expresses that it was extremely disturbing to see the Prime Minister of Canada use the podium of a foreign parliament to attack Canada's student population for organizing against injustice. People of all faiths and backgrounds have constantly come together in protesting the acts of the state of Israel. The diversity of those standing in solidarity with the Palestinian people dispels the arguments made by Prime Minister Harper and Zionist's claiming that standing against Israel is anti-Semitic.
Palestine House is calling on Prime Minister Harper to take a more balanced approach towards the Palestinian struggle and represent the interests of all Canadians both domestically and internationally."
