Palisades FCU, A Strong NY Credit Union Helps Make RCC's International Student Thanksgiving a Success

SUFFERN, NY--(Marketwire - November 18, 2010) - Over 100 individuals including students, faculty, volunteers and community leaders came together to celebrate the 23rd annual International Student Thanksgiving Luncheon at Rockland Community College on Wednesday afternoon. The event, which has been a longstanding tradition at the college, provides RCC's international students an opportunity to learn about American customs and share in Thanksgiving traditions.

"I look forward to this event every year," explained Minsok Kwen, a third year RCC business student from South Korea. "This meal brings all of us international students together to celebrate and give thanks for the opportunity to study in America." The luncheon which was created to help assimilate the students into the American lifestyle, also allows them to unite for support and companionship since the majority of the international students will be away from their families this holiday season.

"We've been supporting the school for years and we're delighted to have had the opportunity to help these students representing over 50 countries once again," said Mark Welshoff, President & CEO of Palisades Federal Credit Union. "We take our hats off to the faculty and administrators at RCC for executing another successful event and continuing to support our Rockland community." The NY Credit Union generously provided funds and volunteers for this holiday event.

"We are truly grateful to Palisades Federal Credit Union, DeCicco's Family Markets and the volunteers who helped make our Thanksgiving luncheon a success," stated Maria Dell'Arciprete, Coordinator of International Student Services at RCC. "For many, the Thanksgiving holiday kick starts the season of giving, and there is no better way to start the season than by saying thank you to our supporters."

The Thanksgiving holiday meal was prepared fresh by students in the College's Hospitality Program using Turkeys donated by the DeCicco Family Markets.
