Palo Open Source OLAP Server Now Supports MDX and Excel Pivot Tables

FREIBURG, GERMANY--(Marketwire - October 14, 2008) - Jedox has developed an ODBO/XMLA driver for the Palo OLAP Server that enables all ODBO-enabled Windows clients (e.g. Microsoft Excel Pivot Tables) as well as XMLA based web service consumers to retrieve Palo data. Palo users with a support contract for Palo receive the driver free of charge.

With the new interface, Palo OLAP Server is now fully integrated in the world of BI applications and compatible with all common analysis-oriented products. The ODBO interface facilitates standardized access to Windows-based OLAP clients. Further, XMLA web service (XMLA for Analysis) supports the standardized access via web clients.

A major extension of functionality is achieved with the query language MDX, which is now available to Palo users with the new driver. MDX makes communication between Palo with Excel Pivot Tables possible, for example. Palo data can now be edited with the extended, interactive analysis functions of the Pivot Tables. Palo users can now choose between Pivot Tables and the reliable Excel Add-in by Jedox to access Palo data and enjoy the advantages of both technologies. The write-back of values to base cells or aggregated levels, a key advantage of Palo with respect to multidimensional planning applications in Excel, remains possible.

XMLA is an interface which enables access to OLAP data bases via web using standard internet protocols such as HTTP, XML or SOAP. The standard has taken root in the market in the last few years and is supported by most large BI vendors such as SAP, Oracle (Hyperion), Microsoft and SAS.
