Pamela Wallin, Former Journalist and Member of the Independent Panel on Canada's Future Role in Afghanistan, to Discuss Canada's Afghan Mission at Fraser Institute's Fall Cocktail Series

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Sept. 12, 2008) - Join Pamela Wallin, former journalist, Canadian Consul General in New York, and a member of the Independent Panel on Canada's future role in Afghanistan, for a discussion on Canada's Afghan mission during the first event of the three-evening 2008 Fall cocktail series, Behind the Spin: Fraser @ The Fifth on Tuesday, September 16.

Wallin's appearance comes on the heels of a new Canadian Press Harris/Decima survey showing a majority of Canadians believe the country is paying too high a price for its involvement in Afghanistan. Wallin is the senior advisor on Canada-US relations to the president of the Americas Society and the Council of the Americas in New York. She is an Officer of the Order of Canada, and was appointed to the Independent Panel on Canada's future role in Afghanistan by Prime Minister Harper in 2007.

The second event of the three-evening series on October 21 will feature John Fund, award-winning journalist for the Wall Street Journal, weighing in on the upcoming U.S. election. The last event of the series on November 24 will feature New Brunswick's Finance Minister Victor Boudreau and Dr. Jack Mintz, University of Calgary public policy professor, for a discussion on New Brunswick's recently-released tax reform proposals that seek to achieve independence from federal equalization payments by 2026.

Behind the Spin: Fraser @ The Fifth offers a unique opportunity to discuss an array of issues with opinion-makers whose leadership on key topics informs the news and public debate. This series is sponsored in Toronto by Burgundy Asset Management, Soberman Chartered Accountants, the Women's Post, The Medcan Clinic, the National Post, and Porter Airlines.

Interested media are invited to attend.
