Pan Terra Awarded CDN $2.6 Million of Trenchless Excavation Projects

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(CCNMatthews - Aug. 17, 2005) - Pan Terra Industries Inc. (TSX VENTURE:PNT) is pleased to announce it has been awarded two projects with a total contract value of CDN $2.6 million that involve extensive use of trenchless technologies. The Bluebird Division of the Company will undertake both projects, and are a further confirmation that Pan Terra's growth in trenchless technology markets. This further positions the Company as a leading full service installer in western Canada for underground trenchless technologies including preparatory services such as: digital video, flushing and cleaning and rehabilitation technology solutions including: auguring, pipe bursting, horizontal directional drilling, slip lining and cure-in-place liners.

The first project is a pipe-bursting and open cut excavation contract to replace approximately one kilometer of sanitary sewer and to increase the capacity of water lines for the Town of Okotoks. The work will start in September 2005 with completion scheduled this year. This project specifies the replacement of 440 meters of 300 mm (12") sanitary sewer line using pipebursting technology plus open cut replacement of 50-meter section of badly sagging 250 mm (10") sewer line. In addition the project will address increasing the size of 497 meters of water main line from 150 mm (6") to 200 mm (8") using pipe-bursting technology. A combination of trenchless technology and conventional open cut methods was selected because it was economically attractive and did not require a dewatering procedure. Urban Systems Ltd. of Calgary are the consulting engineers on the project.

The second project is an auguring and open cut excavation project focused specifically on site redevelopment at the Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary. The scope of work is the re-routing of sanitary; storm water and potable water services to enable construction of new buildings and involves surface demolition, relocation of new underground services and abandonment of existing services. The project also involves working closely with Enmax on the relocation of shallow utilities. Approximately 70 meters of trenchless auguring for each of the services and 65 meters of open cut excavation will be used, with an additional 150 meters of 250 mm (10") water line to be installed. A trenchless solution has been selected because it eliminates the requirement to remove and stockpile approximately 6,000 cubic meters of excavated material on site and better addresses the congestion and risk caused by existing underground services. Ellis Don is the General Contractor on the project.

Both projects will be completed in 2005 and represent expanding opportunities for trenchless technology applications as an integral part of site redevelopment in high growth municipal infrastructure and health care markets.
