Panasonic Announces Two New 4K Cameras: The Lumix DMC-GX8 Mirrorless Micro Four Thirds and the FZ300, More Info: B&H

Photography News: The DMC-GX8 Introduces a 20.3MP Sensor, Dual IS, 4K Photo and Video, and a New Venus Engine Processor to the Line, While the FZ300 Adds 4K Video and Photo Modes

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - July 16, 2015) - B&H is pleased to share the announcement of the Panasonic Lumix DMC-GX8 Mirrorless Micro Four Thirds Camera and the DMC-FZ300 Digital Camera. The DMC-GX8 is the successor to the popular DMC-GX7, adding multiple features and updates to please both photographers and videographers alike.

The most notable upgrades of the Panasonic DMC-GX8 are the addition of 4K UHD video at 30p and 24p frame rates, and dual IS capability. The ability to shoot 4K not only provides increased detail and quality for videos, but also allows 8MP still photographs to be captured at 30 fps in a high-speed burst. Additional 4K still-shooting modes allow the camera to record 30 frames in the second before you press the shutter and another 30 after you press the shutter, or you can record the stills as if you were shooting a video, and then choose which frame to capture during playback.

Both stills and videos are captured on a new 20.3MP Live MOS Micro Four Thirds sensor, which is paired with a new Venus Engine processor to provide image sensitivity up to ISO 25600. The Venus Engine allows for improved image quality, low-light performance, AF speeds, and noise reduction, as well as burst shooting up to 8 fps in single-shot AF, 6 fps in continuous AF mode, and 10 fps with the electronic shutter in SH mode. Panasonic’s Depth-From-Defocus technology allows for AF speeds as fast as 0.07 seconds when using MFT lenses.

The Panasonic GX8 incorporates a splash-proof and dustproof magnesium-alloy die-cast frame, with seals on every joint, dial, and button. A dedicated exposure-compensation dial and eight function buttons lend to the camera’s ease of use. The camera features an OLED Live View Finder and a 3" 1.04m-dot vari-angle OLED touchscreen for image review and menu navigation.
