Pancetera Closes Quarter With Global Expansion, Product Innovation and Increased Customer Acquisition

Breaks Barriers for Moving Data in Virtual Environments; IT Administrators See Reductions of Data Transfer Up to 80%

SANTA CLARA, CA--(Marketwire - October 20, 2010) -  Since launching in August 2010, Pancetera, a developer of technology for accelerating data I/O in virtual environments, has helped an increasing number of IT managers cut virtual machine (VM) backup time from hours to minutes -- with reductions of data transfer between 50-80 percent. In addition, Pancetera has signed partner agreements with industry leaders including IBM and Riverbed Technology, and the company's virtualization solution has been deployed by companies in a variety of industry sectors by leading organizations, including Townsend & Townsend, California Emergency Management Agency (Cal EMA) and Rex Healthcare. To support this global demand, Pancetera today announced its expansion into Europe with the opening of an office in Germany.

Pancetera Unite eliminates the complexities and high costs associated with managing data in virtual environments. Pancetera's SmartRead™ technology is a set of algorithms that reduce virtual I/O when performing maintenance tasks such as backup, replication, or migration of virtual machines. By leveraging SmartRead, administrators can alleviate unnecessary data traffic from primary storage and transfer only the data required to perform these maintenance tasks. For example, Fraunhofer, one of Europe's largest application-oriented research organizations, selected Pancetera Unite to help its Mathematical Institute, Fraunhofer ITWM, improve disaster recovery capabilities within its virtual environment.

"VMware administrators have been looking for a solution that eliminates the problems associated with managing data across the WAN and in the cloud," said Henrik Rosendahl, CEO, Pancetera. "We have seen a significant uptick in companies, in the United States and abroad, looking for a solution to better manage data in virtual environments while leveraging existing technology investments. Pancetera does just that -- offering a virtual appliance that allows administrators to easily and cost effectively move and manage VMs and data without impacting production performance."

Keeping customer needs in mind, Pancetera has also made impressive strides in product development with the release of Pancetera Unite 2.0. Available in early November, features include: change block tracking (for vSphere 4.x), SmartRead 2.0, enhanced vCenter integration, Active Directory integration, multi-node management, and folders (for load balancing and multi-stream management).

SmartRead 2.0 is the latest evolution of Pancetera's patent pending SmartRead technology. SmartRead 2.0 allows customers to protect or migrate their VMware virtual machines requiring that only in-use blocks of changed data be read from the virtual storage. This optimization allows customers to easily backup VMs online with minimal data movement while leveraging their existing enterprise class backup products such as IBM Tivoli Storage Manager. SmartRead 2.0 further accelerates VM migration both locally and across the WAN, making it much easier to establish the disaster recovery strategy for complex virtual environments.

SmartRead 2.0 cuts down the VM image copy time from hours to minutes -- providing faster and more reliable systems restore. The copy of the VM is transferred to the DR site and is ready to boot with a moment's notice if a disaster strikes.

About Pancetera

Pancetera, a developer of technology for accelerating data I/O in virtual environments, helps organizations improve operational efficiency and leverage virtualization investments for greater levels of IT performance and productivity. As more customers move towards a utility computing model, the mobility of VMs is critical to enable a more dynamic infrastructure. Pancetera is removing the barrier for private/hybrid cloud computing. The company's virtual appliance provides a new way to measurably reduce the impact of management tasks in virtual environments, such as backup, replication, migration and security scanning, search and DLP. Pancetera's SmartRead™ technology dramatically reduces network I/O, leading to more efficient utilization of existing enterprise infrastructure.
