Pancetera's Latest Product Release Takes Complexity Out of Managing Enterprise Storage in Virtual Environments

Virtual Appliance Helps IT Administrators Achieve More Efficient Storage Management in Virtual Environments; Delivers Better Interoperability and Offers Improved Integration With Core Technologies From VMware and IBM

SANTA CLARA, CA--(Marketwire - January 31, 2011) -  With an increasing customer base across a variety of virtualization environments, Pancetera, a developer of technology for managing enterprise storage in virtual environments, today announced that its latest release, Pancetera Unite 2.1, has grown in popularity as measured by recent trial downloads, customer feedback and overall increase in product sales. Pancetera Unite 2.1 manages and stores data in virtual environments and helps customers accelerate data transfer and storage efficiencies as well as improve integration with core technologies from IBM and VMware. With Unite 2.1, customers also achieve better interoperability with storage vendors including Data Robotics and Data Domain.

Available immediately as a free 30-day trial and commercially available from Pancetera and its partners, Pancetera Unite 2.1 offers administrators improved efficiency with seamless interoperability and storage migration capabilities. Pancetera's SmartRead technology dramatically reduces storage and network I/O, leading to more efficient utilization of existing enterprise infrastructure and allowing for much faster backup, replication, migration and disaster recovery of virtual machines.

"Our TSM customers can enhance their data protection capabilities in virtual server environments by adding Pancetera Unite to their Tivoli environment," said Richard Spurlock, Senior Enterprise Architect, Starfire Technologies. "Pancetera takes backup to an entirely new level for virtual environments, as customers can now do this with their existing TSM agents. The secret ingredient in this solution is Pancetera's ability to significantly reduce the I/O load on storage and the network, while maintaining the reliability and data integrity that TSM provides. This results in significantly accelerated VMware backups with less impact on the production systems."

Highlights of Pancetera Unite 2.1 include:

SmartMotion™ Technology
Pancetera's SmartMotion technology simplifies the entire process of moving VMs and reduces the time required to copy, move, or replicate your virtual machines from hours to minutes. The SmartMotion appliance allows administrators to move VMs to a different type of storage environment and eliminates the need for third party software. The technology contributes to 5x faster backup, replication and migration over a LAN or WAN. Additionally, SmartMotion optimizes the VM image and transmits only changed blocks for updated VMs, minimizing server, network, and storage resources across the board.

Improved Efficiency
Pancetera SmartRead 2.1 allows customers to protect or migrate VMware virtual machines requiring that only in-use blocks of changed data be read from the virtual storage. This optimization allows customers to easily backup VMs online with minimal data movement while leveraging their existing enterprise class backup products such as IBM Tivoli Storage Manager, HP DataProtector, Legato Networker and others.

Easy Integration with VMware and Microsoft
The VMware vCenter Plugin, available without charge from Pancetera, delivers improved integration capabilities with VMware vSphere 4.x and above. The Pancetera Graphical User Interface is available from the vCenter environment, enhancing usability and convenience.

Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) Integration provides the backup infrastructure for the Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Windows Server operating systems, as well as a mechanism for creating consistent point-in-time copies of data known as shadow copies. This integration enables Pancetera Unite to deliver greater application consistency during backup, replication and copy operations on running VMs.

Interoperation and Manageability Enhancements with IBM TSM
TSM Virtual Appliance Agent Interoperation gives customers a three-step process, to optionally install their IBM TSM agent in the Pancetera Unite virtual appliance to back-up VMware environments. This removes a network hop, increases performance and reduces complexity substantially.

Enhanced Deduplication Support
Pancetera Unite enhances the capabilities of deduplication storage vendors, further reducing the storage and network bandwidth required for virtual machine backup and migration. SmartMotion when combined with dedupe storage creates an optimal solution for VM migration and disaster recovery protection.

Pancetera Unite 2.1 is immediately available as a free 30 day trial and commercially available from Pancetera and its OEM partners
