Paralyzed Veterans Promotes Adaptive Sports and Recreation Opportunities to Encourage Injured Veterans to Be More Active and Healthy

WASHINGTON, DC--(Marketwired - May 19, 2015) -  As a leader in the development of adaptive sports and recreation programs, Paralyzed Veterans of America (Paralyzed Veterans) has been dedicated to helping our injured veterans rebuild their lives and accomplish their goals by engaging in adaptive sports activities.

Paralyzed Veterans Sports and Recreation Programs located across the country provide a variety of physical activities for athletes of all levels of abilities. Encouragement and engagement is important especially for recently paralyzed veterans who are struggling to adapt and often feel alone. Getting involved in adaptive sports promotes fitness, social networking and community involvement.

The PSA titled "Helping Paralyzed Veterans Through Sports" (:60, :30, :15) tells the story of Sergeant RJ Anderson, a young man who was transitioning from being a college student to an Army soldier when tragedy struck. A motorcycle accident left RJ paralyzed and his world turned upside down when he learned he would never walk again. The PSAs illustrate how Paralyzed Veterans' adaptive sports program has helped RJ find a new motivation and regain his freedom in an exciting way. RJ also explains that for injured veterans with spinal cord injury or disease, Paralyzed Veterans is their partner for life, assisting as their needs and challenges change.

Paralyzed Veterans of America works to positively change lives and build brighter futures for our nation's veterans with disabilities and their families, through our broad range of services and expertise. Whether it's fighting for quality health care and decent benefits for all who served, providing opportunities to get back into life through adaptive sports, helping veterans with disabilities secure good jobs and careers, advancing a barrier-free America, educating clinicians about spinal cord injury/dysfunction, or investing in a cure for paralysis, Paralyzed Veterans leads the way in empowering people with disabilities with everything they need to live full and productive lives. For more information, please visit www.PVA.org.
