Paramus Plastic Surgeons Advise Mommy Makeover Patients on Timing and Recovery

Dr. John T. Cozzone and Dr. Luis A. Zapiach Discuss When Prospective Patients Should Ideally Consider a Mommy Makeover for Optimal Results

PARAMUS, NJ--(Marketwired - Sep 23, 2015) - According to New Jersey plastic surgeons Luis A. Zapiach, MD and John T. Cozzone, MD, mothers often place the well-being of their family above their own. While motherhood is frequently a time of great joy, pregnancy, childbirth, and raising children can take a toll on a woman's body. For mothers who wish to regain their pre-pregnancy figure, the two surgeons say a mommy makeover can offer a dynamic body rejuvenation with youthful and natural-looking results.

At Art Plastic Surgery, each mommy makeover is custom-designed to address the individual concerns of the patient. Pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding can cause significant changes to the body, such as loss of breast volume, sagging breasts, loose skin around the abdomen, stretched or torn abdominal muscles, and isolated fat deposits that are resistant to diet and exercise. To restore and revitalize various areas of the body, Dr. Zapiach and Dr. Cozzone can combine a number of breast surgery and body sculpting procedures for a comprehensive treatment plan, including breast augmentation, breast lift, liposuction, and abdominoplasty.

In addition to helping patients select which combination of procedures might best meet their needs, Dr. Cozzone and Dr. Zapiach also assist patients in choosing the best time for a mommy makeover. "If you have recently had a child, we strongly recommended that you wait until you've completed breastfeeding," says Dr. Cozzone. "Furthermore, if you are considering having another child in the future, you may want to delay scheduling a mommy makeover as a new pregnancy and the associated changes to your body could compromise your results." The New Jersey plastic surgeon also advises patients to wait until they have an ample amount of time for recovery.

According to Dr. Zapiach, the recovery time for a mommy makeover can vary depending upon which specific treatments are performed. Some patients may need to have the procedures of a mommy makeover spread over multiple visits, which can also lengthen the duration of recovery. "More extensive cosmetic surgeries performed alone often necessitate approximately one to two weeks of downtime before regular, non-vigorous activities and routines can be fully resumed," says Dr. Zapiach. He goes on to state that the same recovery times typically apply to a mommy makeover, and that for most patients, "any heavy lifting and/or strenuous exercise be avoided for a minimum of six weeks to ensure optimal healing."

Ultimately, when the timing is right and the surgery is performed by an experienced board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Cozzone and Dr. Zapiach note that the rejuvenated figure and improved self-esteem often achieved with a mommy makeover can be exceptionally rewarding.
