Pardon Services Canada: U.S. Department of Homeland Security Doubles the Cost of Entry Into the U.S. for Many Canadians

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - July 18, 2007) - Pardon Services Canada reports the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is increasing a variety of Immigration and Entry Application Fees by more than 66% on July 30, 2007. The application fee for a U.S. Entry Waiver will increase from $U.S.265.00 to $U.S.545.00. All applications postmarked on or after July 30, 2007 must be accompanied by the new fee amount.

The lack of notification of the new fee structure has left many Canadians in trouble as thousands of applications were already in progress prior to the new fee announcement by the DHS. Currently, once a Waiver application is filed it requires 6 to 12 months to be evaluated and processed by DHS.

The increase will affect all those Canadians requiring a U.S. Waiver to travel into the United States. Canadians with most types of criminal records or who have been finger printed and who do not have a Waiver may be denied entry into the U.S. They could be subjected to lengthy delays, interviews, finger printing and ultimately denied entry at any border crossing. The increase will also affect all those Canadians that are currently involved in the Waiver Application Process and are compiling the mandatory documentation for a U.S. Waiver but will not complete the collection and mailing of the required documents and payment prior to the increase date of July 30, 2007.

Jared Church, Operations Manager for Pardon Services Canada expresses concern for the thousands of Canadians with applications underway. "Currently our Company has over 500 U.S. Waiver Applications in process." Says Church, "This fee increase will see their application costs double and possibly interfere with the smooth and timely completion of their application. As part of our service to our U.S. Waiver clients, we mailed out notification of the increase as soon as we found the notice on the Department of Homeland Security website, otherwise Canadians would never been aware of the pending increase in U.S. fees."
