Parks Associates: More Than Nine Million Smart Home Controllers to Be Sold in Western Europe in 2020

Nest to Deliver Opening Keynote at 11th-Annual CONNECTIONS™ Europe: Smart Home, IoT, and the Connected Consumer

DALLAS, TX--(Marketwired - Jul 4, 2016) - Parks Associates today announced new NUMBERS™ research showing a significant spike worldwide in the adoption of smart home controllers starting in 2016. The annual installation of smart home controllers in Western Europe will grow from just over 100,000 in 2015 to more than nine million in 2020. The firm will host the 11th-annual CONNECTIONS™ Europe: Smart Home, IoT, and the Connected Consumer, 2-3 November 2016 at the NH Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky in Amsterdam.

"The security industry is the leading channel for the smart home market in Europe," said Tom Kerber, Director, Research, Home Controls & Energy, Parks Associates. "However, this is changing as companies such as Samsung begin embedding smart home controllers into their smart TVs and appliances, driving substantial growth in the adoption of smart home controllers globally. At CONNECTIONS™ Europe, we will explore these shifts in the IoT, connected CE, and smart home markets and their implications for Europe and worldwide."

The firm's analysts note that the smart home market is also buoyed by growing interest from the insurance industry, although these companies are still working to identify the right business models in new and regulated markets. CONNECTIONS™ Europe will address these challenges for the IoT and smart home with over 150 industry executives in an intimate networking environment, with multiple sessions on the impact of IoT, cloud services, and the smart home on the consumer.

The conference features keynotes from David Isbitski, Chief Evangelist, Alexa and Echo, Amazon; James Monighan, Managing Director Europe, SmartThings; and François Girodolle, Head of Product Partnerships, Nest Europe, Nest Labs, Inc.
