Parks Associates: One-Fourth of U.K., German, and Spanish Broadband Households Very Interested in Smart Home Devices, Especially for Safety and Security Applications

Deutsche Telekom, Icontrol Networks, and Sky Deutschland to Highlight Innovative Business Models at CONNECTIONS(TM) Europe

DALLAS, TX--(Marketwired - Oct 8, 2014) - Approximately 25% of broadband households in the U.K., Germany, and Spain find individual smart home devices "very" appealing, with smart devices such as smoke, water, and CO detectors as the most appealing, according to Parks Associates' 3Q 2014 European consumer data.

The international research firm will host the ninth-annual CONNECTIONS™ Europe: Monetizing Strategies for the Connected Home on 18-19 November 2014 at the Mövenpick Hotel in Amsterdam. The event features five sessions focused on the smart home, with executives speaking from AlertMe, Ayla Networks, Arrayent, Bluelinea, CentraLite Systems, Domoalert, INSTEON, Icontrol Networks, ROC-Connect, ULE Alliance, ZigBee Alliance, Zipato, and Z-Wave Alliance:

"Smart home awareness is low among European consumers, and willingness to purchase smart home packages is not as strong in Europe as it is in the U.S.," said Tom Kerber, Director, Research, Home Controls & Energy, Parks Associates. "At CONNECTIONS™ Europe, we will discuss strategies for service providers, security companies, and device manufacturers to overcome low awareness and low familiarity with smart home products and services. Communicating the numerous benefits of smart home solutions is part of a longer, consultative selling process."

Parks Associates research finds 43% of U.S. broadband households are interested in purchasing a smart home package, compared to 22% of broadband households in Germany, 30% in Spain, and 34% in the U.K. Security companies have an advantage in this early market, as 80% of broadband households in the U.K., Spain, and Germany rank home security companies as one their preferred providers for a smart home system.

At CONNECTIONS™ Europe, Greg Roberts, VP, Marketing, Icontrol Networks, and Jon Carter, U.K. Head of Business Development - Connected Home, Deutsche Telekom, will participate in a fireside chart, and Oliver Lewis, SVP, Customer Propositions and Product Management, Sky Deutschland, will present the opening keynote.

CONNECTIONS™ Europe is sponsored by Arrayent, Icontrol Networks, Tyco, ROC-Connect, Verisure, Amdocs, Domoalert, INSTEON, Qualcomm, ULE Alliance, Z-Wave, Ayla Networks, Zipato, AlertMe, MiOS, and Support.com.
