Parks Canada: Twilight Concert at the Levis Forts!

QUEBEC CITY, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Aug. 12, 2008) - On Saturday, August 16, the 9th edition of the Twilight Concert will send a thrill through Levis Forts National Historic Site of Canada. This year, visitors will be treated to the military music of Germany's Marinemusikkorps Nordsee. Rain or shine, the Levis, A Sentinel of Quebec themed concert begins at 6:00 p.m. Entrance to the site is free.

A whole host of activities await concertgoers, including performances by the Compagnies franches de la Marine and 3 Area Support Group Pipes & Drums Gagetown, a torch parade, and Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture accompanied by the 6th Field Artillery Regiment canons. A pyromusical show featuring the 55 musicians of the Marinemusikkorps Nordsee will impress the young and young-at-heart. The Twilight Concert will unfold under the honorary presidency of Lieutenant General Romeo A. Dallaire.

Projectors representing each Levis fort will light up the sky on August 13, 14, and 15, between 9:00 p.m. and midnight, making the forts visible from the city of Quebec for the first time in history. The light show is an original way to highlight Levis's role as Quebec's sentinel, in honour of the Old Capital's 400th anniversary.

Fort No. 1 was the last in a chain of three forts built under the supervision of British military engineers between 1865 and 1872. The line of forts completed Quebec's defence network in the 19th century.

The Twilight Concert will take place in Levis, at 41 Chemin du Gouvernment.
