Parliamentary Secretary Eve Adams Attends Streetsville Legion Barbecue

MISSISSAUGA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - April 20, 2012) - On behalf of the Honourable Steven Blaney, Minister of Veterans Affairs, Eve Adams, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Veterans Affairs and Member of Parliament for Mississauga-Brampton South, joined members of Branch 139 of the Royal Canadian Legion (Streetsville) today to help kick off the first Friday Summer Barbecue of 2012.

"For more than eight decades, the Royal Canadian Legion has played a leading role in serving our honoured Veterans," said Minister Blaney. "Together with the Legion, our Government will continue to work hard to ensure our Veterans and their families have the care and support they need, when they need it."

"It is a privilege to be here this afternoon, to get to know, and to learn from, the men and women who work so hard to make a difference in the lives of our Veterans," said Ms. Adams. "Here in Streetsville, and in communities across Canada, local Legion branches truly are pillars of our communities."

Ms. Adams was pleased to share in the first of these weekly barbecues which have become such a fixture in the community, with many attendees wearing red to mark Red Friday. The afternoon barbecue provided Veterans, their families and other members of our community with the opportunity to gather over a meal with friends, both old and new, to share stories and show their support for our Canadian Forces members.

Veterans Affairs Canada has long worked in close partnership with the Royal Canadian Legion, and it recognizes the important role played by local Legion branches in providing support to Veterans and their families in communities across the country.
