Partner Tom Sprange Anchors King & Spalding's London-Based Arbitration and Litigation Practice

LONDON--(Marketwire - May 19, 2011) - Tom Sprange, an English-law qualified specialist in large-scale litigation and arbitration matters and cross-border disputes, has joined the London office of King & Spalding as a partner in its international arbitration and litigation practices. Sprange will anchor King & Spalding's litigation practice in London and help build the firm's international arbitration practice in Europe.

"Tom is a significant addition to King & Spalding and the London office," said John L. Keffer, co-managing partner of King & Spalding's London office. "His successful cross-border litigation and arbitration practice, which includes High Court litigation in the UK and significant international commercial arbitration engagements, nicely complements our commercial arbitration capabilities in Paris and Singapore, as well as our U.S. litigation and arbitration practices."

Sprange joined King & Spalding from Steptoe & Johnson, where he was partner and Solicitor Advocate in its international dispute resolution group. Sprange has handled numerous high-stakes arbitration cases under the rules of leading arbitratal institutions such as the ICC, AAA, SCC, LCIA and ICSID. His considerable experience in arbitration and litigation spans a variety of business sectors, including telecommunications, engineering, energy and natural resources, corporate fraud and product liability. Sprange is experienced in injunctive and enforcement actions and is a specialist in obtaining Worldwide Freezing Orders.

Sprange also has significant experience in conducting internal investigations, audits and risk assessments for clients in the context of regulatory compliance, including international and local anti-corruption and money-laundering legislation. He also handles Foreign Corrupt Practice Act matters for U.S.-based clients. A native Australian, Sprange received an L.P.A.B, Dip. Law from the University of Sydney and earned an LL.M in International Law from the University of New South Wales.

"King & Spalding has built a first-class international dispute resolution group that has captured the attention of clients internationally. I have worked with several of the firm's lawyers over the past few years, and I am excited to be part of a firm so highly regarded for its spirit of collaborative cross-office teamwork, commitment to client service and global arbitration platform," Sprange said.

King & Spalding's international arbitration practice, a global leader in investor-state disputes brought under investment treaties, has expanded significantly in recent years into international commercial arbitration. Its lawyers have particular expertise in large, complex disputes in the areas of civil engineering and construction, oil and gas, information technology, pharmaceuticals and telecommunications. The firm opened an office in Singapore in August 2010 that serves as a hub for its work in energy and international arbitration throughout the Asia-Pacific region. Partner John Savage, a leading name in Asia, oversees the firm's Asian arbitration work. In September 2009, the firm opened a seven-lawyer office in Paris to expand its commercial arbitration practice. Foremost among the seven were Eric A. Schwartz, one of the leading international arbitration lawyers in the world, his colleague James Castello, a prominent international arbitration practitioner, and then-London-based King & Spalding arbitration partner Ken Fleuriet.

King & Spalding's international arbitration practice is ranked consistently among the best in the world. In 2010, the firm received both the Chambers USA and Chambers Latin America Awards for Excellence in international arbitration and, in 2009, King & Spalding earned the number two spot in Focus Europe's biennial Arbitration Scorecard. Chambers has said of King & Spalding: "This powerhouse continues to impress with its international arbitration practice, attracting praise for its depth of knowledge and client service."
