Partnering with Bullfrog Power, Simons Reinforces its Sustainability Commitment

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - April 19, 2016) - Bullfrog Power, Canada's leading green energy provider, and Simons, the renowned family-owned fashion retailer, are announcing a new environmental partnership. Simons is choosing Bullfrog Power's green electricity for its location at Square One in Mississauga, which celebrated its grand opening.

"We believe in investing in Canadian solutions-that's why we chose Bullfrog Power's green energy to help us reduce the environmental impact of our new stores," said CEO Peter Simons. "Simons understands that the actions it takes today can impact future generations, which is why, when we think of our business, it's not in terms of the next quarter, but the next quarter-century. Our partnership with Bullfrog Power shows the impact that family-owned businesses can have in our communities, by supporting and encouraging the values that, as Canadians, we all aspire to."

The Simons sustainability journey began on March 9, 1990, when the company adopted a beluga whale named Twik to support the St. Lawrence National Institute of Ecotoxicology in its research work and preservation of marine species. Since then, the company has implemented comprehensive recycling, recovery and sustainable development efforts throughout the organization. In addition, its Créer Vert label uses popular eco-friendly materials, including organic cotton, hemp and lyocell fibre to produce garments that are less harmful to ecosystems.

"Simons is a Canadian institution, which is why it is significant that that they are opting for a made-in-Canada approach to address their energy-related emissions," said Ron Seftel, CEO, Bullfrog Power. "By supporting Canada's highest quality green electricity product with Bullfrog Power, Simons is reducing its environmental impact and supporting the development of new renewable energy projects across the country."

Through the agreement, Bullfrog Power's generators put 100 per cent clean, pollution-free electricity onto the grid to match the amount of conventional power that the bullfrogpowered Simons locations use. Across Canada, Bullfrog Power's green electricity comes from a blend of wind and low-impact hydro power sourced from new Canadian renewable energy facilities.
