Parvus Gigabit Ethernet Switch Subsystem Certified for DO-160 Airworthiness to 50,000 ft Altitude and -55C Temperature Operation

Rugged DuraNET 1268 Switch Builds on Previous MIL-STD-810G Testing With Additional Commercial Aerospace Certification to DO-160 for High Altitude and Low Temperatures

SALT LAKE CITY, UT--(Marketwire - Oct 27, 2011) - Eurotech subsidiary Parvus Corporation announced that the DuraNET 1268 Gigabit Ethernet switch subsystem have completed high altitude and low temperature testing in accordance with (IAW) RTCA / DO-160G, Section 4.5.1 and Section 4.6.1, further validating airworthiness and reliability for this rugged Commercial Off the Shelf (COTS) network switch. DO-160 is the standard for environmental testing of airborne equipment, particularly used by the commercial aerospace industry.

DO-160 qualification was completed by a third-party test laboratory, subjecting the DuraNET 1268 to -55°C (-67°F) operation and altitudes up to 50,000 feet (15,240 meter). This latest certification add to passing qualification test results previously performed per MIL-STD-810G, MIL-STD-461F, and MIL-STD-1275D methodologies that included extreme test levels of 7.98 g RMS random vibration and 40 g functional shock using test parameters that spanned fighter jet, helicopter, wheeled vehicle, and tracked vehicle platforms, water immersion testing to 1 meter, EMI/EMC compliance testing for conducted and radiated emissions and susceptibility, among other tests.

"With government budgets in flux and pressure mounting to 'do more with less,' defense and aerospace contractors are keen on pre-validated rugged electronics subsystems, such as the DuraNET 1268, to help them reduce their program risks by leveraging qualified COTS technologies for military / civil platform upgrades and tech refreshes," said Parvus VP of Sales and Marketing Dusty Kramer. "The pre-qualification of the DuraNET 1268 switch to DO-160 and MIL-STD-810 standards further validates the unit as a reliable, affordable, and multi-service solution across land, air and shipboard applications."

Small and lightweight in form factor, yet robust in mechanical design, the DuraNET 1268 Ethernet network is optimized for enhancing situational awareness onboard Size, Weight, and Power (SWaP)-constrained airborne, ground and maritime assets. The unit is equipped with ten Gigabit Ethernet ports for connecting IPv4 and IPv6 compatible computing devices onboard demanding network-centric (un)manned vehicle and aircraft platforms. To enhance security and system management, it also integrates recoverable data zeroization capabilities for declassifying switch data, along with RS-232 Command Line Interface (CLI) and Ethernet management ports.
