Pasadena & Glendale Public Libraries Are First in Nation With Download Classical Music

Audiobook, eBook, and Digital Music Library Showcased at California Library Association Annual Conference

PASADENA, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- November 3, 2005 -- At The California Library Association (CLA) Annual Conference that opens this weekend, California librarians will be viewing and listening to the Pasadena / Glendale Digital Library, a service that launched today and becomes the first public library in the nation to provide high-quality digital classical music titles for download alongside best-selling eBooks and audiobooks. The service at offers immediate download access to audio books by best-selling authors Dean Koontz and Nora Roberts, eBooks by Candace Bushnell and Lisa Scottoline, and the most beloved recordings of all time from the Naxos Music Library including:

"The new Pasadena / Glendale Digital Library service provides our communities with 24/7 access to several forms of popular download media," stated Bryan Sands, Information & Technology Manager for the Pasadena Public Library. "We provide download self-help and education eBooks for reading and print, audiobooks for commuters, and high fidelity classical music recordings for our audiophile's enjoyment," he added.

Using Pasadena or Glendale library cards, patrons can checkout and download a variety of popular fiction, self-help, business, children's, and reference titles and read them on their PCs and Macs or listen to them on Pocket PCs and MP3 players that support protected Windows Media format. Similar digital book libraries are now in use by Los Angeles Public Library, San Jose Public Library, and hundreds of others.

The service was developed for the libraries by Digital Library Reserve and book and music content is licensed through OverDrive, Inc., a leader in digital services to publishers, retailers, and libraries.
