Pass 'Go', Collect $100,000! Delta Resident Wins Grand Prize in 2013 MONOPOLY(R) Game at McDonald's(R)

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwired - Feb. 5, 2014) - For Christine McMillan of Delta, British Columbia a routine visit to the drive-thru at her local McDonald's restaurant came with an added surprise. After purchasing her daily coffee and peeling off the MONOPOLY® Boardwalk and Park Place Game Stamps from a medium McCafé® Premium Roast brewed coffee, the last thing she expected was that she would become the lucky $100,000 Grand Prize winner!

McMillan, a regular customer at McDonald's, didn't believe she had won the 2013 MONOPOLY® Game Grand Prize until it was confirmed by McDonald's Canada.

"I won on Thanksgiving Day and had volunteered to go into work. Like any other day, I grabbed a coffee at the McDonald's drive-thru on my way into work," said McMillan. "I would never have guessed I could win this much money on something I buy every day!"

The 38-year-old pharmacy technician does not yet know how she'll spend her winnings.

The local McDonald's restaurant where she made her winning purchase (5776 Ladner Trunk Road) will celebrate by congratulating the winner and donating $1 from every McCafé® Premium Roast brewed coffee purchased today to Ronald McDonald House® British Columbia (RMH BC). In addition, Stephen Krawchuk, McDonald's Franchisee and RMH BC Board Member, will be presenting the House with a $5,000 cheque from proceeds of donation coin boxes from each of his restaurant locations.

Launched on September 24, 2013 at participating McDonald's restaurants in Canada, the 2013 MONOPOLY® Game at McDonald's® gave customers two ways to win money, food Prizes and more with Game Stamps found on specially-marked food packaging. Customers could play the MONOPOLY® Game at McDonald's® in one of two ways:

  • "Collect and Win" - by collecting Game Stamp properties to potentially win various Prizes
  • "Instant Win" - by peeling off Game Stamps to potentially win food and cash Prizes

This year's Game offered a 1-in-4 chance overall to win from millions of Prizes available including cash and food Prizes, gift cards, trips and much more. McDonald's has served up many winners in past MONOPOLY® Games at McDonald's and this year's Game continued to offer a fun Game experience. The MONOPOLY® Game at McDonald's® is a favourite among Canadians and one that is enjoyed by all age groups.
