Passing of Former Mayor Edwin Mansfield Briggs


BEACONSFIELD, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - Dec. 7, 2015) - The former mayor of the City of Beaconsfield, Mr. Edwin M. Briggs, who was elected as Councillor from 1956 until 1960 and served as Mayor from 1960 until 1982, was one of those actors who have contributed to the growth of the city. Mr. Briggs passed away peacefully on November 29 in his 90th year.

Under his administration in Beaconsfield, the City experienced a great boom in the development of its social and sports resources. This includes the construction of City Hall, the Recreation Centre, the Library, the fire station, the sewage treatment plant, soccer and baseball fields as well as the lawn bowling greens.

"On behalf of Beaconsfield Council, I would like to express our heartfelt and deepest sympathy to the family and friends of Mr. Briggs, a mayor who had marked the history of Beaconsfield; a man committed to the betterment of the community", added Mayor Georges Bourelle.

The City of Beaconsfield is saluting the outstanding contribution of Mr. Briggs in his community, in addition to offering its condolences to the family and to all those affected directly or indirectly by his death.

A Celebration of Life will take place on Wednesday, December 9 from 3 until 7 p.m. at Collins Clarke Funeral Homes, 222 Autoroute 20 in Pointe-Claire.

As a tribute to Mr. Edwin Briggs, flags at Beaconsfield City Hall have been lowered to half-mast.
