Passport Health/MA Warns International Travelers, "Be Vaccinated for Infectious Diseases Before Travel to Brazil, Mexico, South America and Africa"

WOBURN, MA--(Marketwire - June 15, 2009) - Passport Health of Massachusetts, specialists in vaccinations against dread diseases faced by international travelers, is warning about serious health dangers in Brazil, Mexico, South America and Africa.

According to the Wall Street Journal, June 10, 2009 ("Taking the Bite Our of Travel," by Laura Landro), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is about to release its 2010 edition of the Yellow Book reference guide to travel medicine. For the first time, popular destinations for summer travel are identified with specific serious diseases that should be inoculated against.

Julie Barker, Executive and Nursing Director of Passport Health of Massachusetts, said, "Brazil is one of the countries newly recognized in the CDC's guidelines for Yellow Fever. With the Merrimack Valley and other parts of Massachusetts home to many Brazilians, we urge anyone traveling there to receive Yellow Fever vaccinations as soon as possible before traveling. This is very important because vaccines can take some time to become effective."

Statistics obtained from Massport, operator of Logan International Airport, shows that last year 1.6 million passengers departed through Boston for overseas destinations. Brazil, Mexico, Central and South America as well major African cities account for destinations popular with locally-based international travelers.

"Passport Health can administer shots in either our Cambridge or Woburn offices, as we and other Passport Health facilities across the country now are readily available and convenient sources for anthrax immunization," she said.
