PatchLink Ensures Ongoing Compliance for Fortune 1000 Corporation

BMHC Uses PatchLink Update to Automate Policy Enforcement to Support Rapid Growth

SCOTTSDALE, AZ -- (MARKET WIRE) -- April 2, 2007 -- PatchLink Corporation, the global leader for security and vulnerability management solutions, today announced that Building Materials Holding Company (BMHC) is using PatchLink Update™ in its vulnerability management strategy, enforcing compliance with security baselines and ensuring workstations are automatically managed with the corporate-wide patching process.

While maintaining a secure network is a significant task for any Fortune 1000 company, BMHC, which has grown dramatically through acquisitions, faced the added challenge of constantly integrating devices of unknown security levels from the companies it purchases into its infrastructure. As a result, the corporation struggled with production and line of business outages from well-publicized viruses and worms. After looking at a variety of software management tools, the company determined that PatchLink Update™ was the best solution for enforcing compliance with security baselines and ensuring acquired assets are integrated into the corporate-wide patching process.

"As a result of the controls that PatchLink has helped put in place, BMHC has greatly reduced the complexity of compliance reporting while demonstrating success in all of our internal and external audits," said Michael Leonhardt, infrastructure architect at BMHC. "As BMHC grows, PatchLink assists us in removing security and compliance roadblocks to our rapid expansion."

PatchLink's unique patented Fingerprint™ Technology provides asset inventory that gives BMHC a true look at installed software and license count on the network. The accurate license count has helped BMHC make better buying decisions and track licensing to ensure compliance and effective use of software assets. As BMHC operates in many geographically dispersed locations where bandwidth is at a premium cost, Patchlink's built in Patch Distribution Unit enables the company to effectively push large patches to many clients with limited bandwidth. Furthermore, PatchLink Update automatically remediates existing vulnerabilities before any new devices are allowed into the corporate infrastructure.

BMHC also uses the PatchLink Developers Kit (PDK) to support its emergency policy and procedure for zero-day exploits. BMHC can now write and rapidly deploy its own emergency custom security updates to ISV products or internal enterprise applications, ensuring optimal security from unknown vulnerabilities in its heterogeneous environment.

"PatchLink is committed to providing organizations, like BMHC, with the tools they need to easily integrate new workstations, streamline polices and enforce compliance," said Matt Mosher, senior vice president of Americas, at PatchLink. "With the proliferation of acquisitions and disparate work environments today, PatchLink understands the need for our automated solution that ensures corporations can efficiently and effectively remediate vulnerabilities without interrupting workflow."
