Patent Awarded to TCS for Retrieving Best Possible Location Fix for Wireless Applications

Patented Invention Used in TCS' Industry-Leading Xypoint® Location Platform

ANNAPOLIS, MD -- (MARKET WIRE) -- April 3, 2007 -- TeleCommunication Systems, Inc. (TCS) (NASDAQ: TSYS), a leading provider of mission-critical wireless communications, today announced the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has issued patent number 7,200,380 for "Wireless Telecommunications Location-Based Services Scheme Selection."

The patent enables a location fix for a mobile device to be generated using the best possible location technology available within a defined time period. Given a request by an application to locate a mobile device within a certified level of accuracy for a given time period, the patent proposes a way to select the location scheme that will achieve the best result. To achieve the best fix, the location scheme may be an A-GPS location fix, a network-based location fix or the last known cached fix, depending upon the accuracy required and the time sensitivity of the application.

"TCS' Xypoint® Location Platform continues to set the bar for providing the best location platform for an operator to implement precise LBS services," stated Drew Morin, Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer for TCS. "This invention has been incorporated into our Xypoint Location Platform and currently provides our operator customers with the best LBS experience to rapidly deliver accurate and timely location for their users."

The patent represents TCS' 54th announced patent with more than 150 additional patent applications pending in the United States and jurisdictions throughout the world.
