PatientPerspectives.org, a CloudVisit and American Medical Systems Collaboration, Aims to Mediate Couples' Frustration in Erectile Dysfunction Struggles

American Medical Systems' PatientPerspectives.org Is an Innovative Program for Men With Erectile Dysfunction (ED) Contemplating a Penile Implant; AMS Understands the Hardship Erectile Dysfunction Can Bring Into a Relationship and Hopes to Provide a Forum for Discussing Concerns

COLD SPRING, NY--(Marketwired - Mar 10, 2015) - CloudVisit Telemedicine, in partnership with American Medical System (AMS), recently-launched PatientPerspective.org, a program offering support to men who are considering a penile implant, which focuses on the impact of erectile dysfunction and the condition's impact on a man's love life. PatientPerspectives.org allows men with ED considering a penile implant to speak with a man or a couple who have experience with an AMS penile implant. The program uses videoconferencing and phone calls to facilitate discussions between both parties. The discussions can cover personal experiences to answering questions regarding potential worries and concerns.

Erectile dysfunction is the inability to get or maintain an erection sufficient for sexual intercourse -- affects not only men, but also their partners. Couples may experience reduced intimacy and closeness both in and out of the bedroom. Partners often feel anger, frustration and helplessness. Patient Perspectives was launched to offer compassionate advice and personal stories, as well as surgical outcomes and post-operative recovery information.

When David first began experiencing erectile dysfunction (ED), he noticed an emotional disconnect with his wife Sarah. Sarah tried being supportive by telling David that everything was okay. Sometimes, an "it's okay" is not okay for someone dealing with a life struggle. The key to recovery and relationship mending is open conversation and honest discussions. David and Sarah realized their mistake and restored harmony in a constructive way: by discussing options and focusing on future goals. In the end, they jointly decided on a penile implant by American Medical Systems to treat his ED.

In one study, 96 percent of partners of men who received an AMS penile implant reported sexual activity with the implant to be excellent or satisfactory.* It is important to remember that a man suffering with ED should not have to make the decision alone. His partner wants answers and solutions just as much as he does. Good communication is not only essential for successful decision-making and treatment, but it can help couples understand each other and support each other through a difficult time.
