Pattison Onestop Announces Summer Arts Line-up: Playing in Shopping Centres Across Canada

Pattison Onestop announces the summer arts line-up playing in shopping centres across Canada with photography series, Girls from July 1 - July 14, 2013 followed by Cutting up Culture, a collection of contemporary collage works from August 5 - August 25, 2013.

I'm pleased to present this new summer shopping mall series, helping to energize and transform some of our public spaces," said Sharon Switzer, Arts Programmer and Curator, Pattison Onestop.

The July exhibition Girls, reveals Canadian artist, Janieta Eyre's new photography series exploring the promise of girls to the society in which they live. Eyre's black and white portraits, in which the girls are the focus and subject paired with a shifting landscape, capture moments of transition, the hidden potential of girls just before they reach adulthood, and the sense of hope or possibility. Eyre has exhibited widely, both nationally and internationally. Upcoming exhibitions include "I should have begun with this" photo-paintings at Galerie Samuel Lallouz (Montreal, QC) and "Selected Poems" at Mulherin + Pollard Projects (NYC, NY).

Throughout August, Art in Transit presents Cutting up Culture an international exhibition of collage by artists - Beth Hoeckel (Baltimore, MA), Andre Bergamin (Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul), Sandra Chevrier (Montreal, QC), Erin Case (Midland, MI) and Randy Grskovic (Toronto, ON).

Using popular media images sourced from cartoons, advertisements, journalism and fashion spreads, these five artists have shown how playful pastiche can be created through collage. Their diverse aesthetics, when combined with imagination, brings new meaning to these images, whether it is iconic, ironic, retrograde or obscure.

Cutting up Culture presents a selection of works that showcase the ways in which media imagery can manifest itself both conceptually and stylistically in contemporary collage practice. Curated by Sharon Switzer and Art in Transit intern, Zoé Noble Fox.
