Paul Dewar Backed by Manitoba Labour Leaders: Four Successive MFL Presidents Endorse Dewar Leadership

WINNIPEG, MANITOBA--(Marketwire - Dec. 14, 2011) - Four successive Presidents of the Manitoba Federation of Labour (MFL) today endorsed Paul Dewar to lead the New Democratic Party of Canada.

"Paul Dewar has what it takes to defeat Stephen Harper and replace his government with one that puts working families first," said MFL President Kevin Rebeck.

In addition to current MFL President Kevin Rebeck, Dewar also received the endorsement of past MFL Presidents Darlene Dziewit, Rob Hilliard and Susan Hart-Kulbaba.

"Stephen Harper continues to undermine free collective bargaining by interfering on behalf of employers," said Dziewit. "Paul Dewar understands the importance of collective bargaining in our democracy and under his leadership we can restore these fundamental rights."

Hilliard, a long-time activist for workplace health and safety, noted that injury rates in federally regulated workplaces have been rising while they are falling in provincially regulated workplaces across Canada. "Paul Dewar understands that Harper's cuts to the number of federal health and safety enforcement officers are hurting workers," said Hilliard. "I know Paul will make workplace health and safety a priority."

"Paul Dewar has a solid record of standing up for working people," said Hart-Kulbaba. "Paul was a leader in the struggle to defend the pensions of former Nortel workers in his community."
