Paul McCartney Tops TicketNews' June Events Rankings

VERNON, CT--(Marketwire - Jul 5, 2011) - Sir Paul McCartney slowly unveiled dates through June for his upcoming On the Run Tour, but he quickly landed atop TicketNews' exclusive events rankings for the month, compiled from June 1-30.

McCartney launches the summer 2011 tour with a two-night stand, July 15-16, at Yankee Stadium, before moving on to four other North American cities for six more concerts. Mid-June also marked the start of public ticket sales for Honda Civic Tour's 10th annual run, which begins the summer with a respectable No. 16 debut on the rankings.

Broadway sensation "The Book of Mormon" continued climbing the TicketNews rankings in June, finishing in third overall and improving upon its May finish in fourth. "The Book of Mormon" snagged nine awards, including Best Musical, at the 2011 Tony Awards on June 12. Also riding high off the Tonys is British stage import "War Horse," which debuted at No. 19 for June after taking home five awards, including the distinction for Best Play.

June was also a big month for CONCACAF Gold Cup tournament tickets, illustrating soccer's growing popularity among U.S. audiences. CONCACAF games accounted for three spots in the rankings, including the No. 11-ranked Gold Cup Final between the U.S. and Mexico.

July Sports Forecast:

Just like in the league standings, the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox were neck-and-neck in TicketNews' June events rankings. Both teams may see a slight dip in July's rankings due to the MLB All-Star Break from July 11-13. The All-Star Game goes down June 12 at Chase Field in Phoenix, AZ.
