Paul Thomas Jenkins Appointed Chair of the National Research Council

The Honourable James Moore, Minister of Industry, and the Honourable Ed Holder, Minister of State (Science and Technology), today announced the appointment of Paul Thomas Jenkins as Chair of the National Research Council of Canada (NRC), effective February 5, 2015.

Mr. Jenkins is Chairman of the Board of OpenText Corporation and has served as a member of its board since 1994. He is an Executive Fellow of the School of Public Policy at the University of Calgary and a member of the Board of Directors of both the C.D. Howe Institute and the Canadian Council of Chief Executives. Mr. Jenkins was the chair of the six-member expert panel that conducted the Review of Federal Support to Research and Development.

Mr. Jenkins has pioneered many of the technologies commonly used today to manage digital information to increase productivity and governance.

The NRC is the Government of Canada's premier research and technology organization (RTO).   • Mr. Jenkins holds an M.B.A. from the Schulich School of Business at York University, an M.A.Sc. in electrical engineering from the University of Toronto and a B.Eng. & Mgt. in engineering physics and commerce from McMaster University.
