Pay By Touch Selects S2 Systems' OpeN/2® Platform

Biometric Authentication Payment Service Expands Infrastructure to Support Top Tier Retailers

DALLAS, TX -- (MARKET WIRE) -- April 19, 2005 -- S2 Systems, Inc., a global provider of transaction processing, authorization and integrated solutions for the banking, financial services and retail market, announced Pay By Touch has selected S2 Systems' OpeN/2® enterprise payment solution. Pay By Touch is a free consumer payment service that allows shoppers to pay for purchases and cash checks using a finger scan linked to their financial accounts and loyalty programs. S2 Systems' OpeN/2 platform is the cornerstone of an integrated architectural framework that enables retailers to ultimately transform the customer's multi-channel experience into a single view.

San Francisco-based Pay By Touch is the pioneer of a patented biometric authentication payment system that provides greater protection against identity theft with higher levels of security, flexibility and speed. To enroll, shoppers simply scan their finger, enter a search number, swipe rewards cards and/or payment cards and add their checking account information to build a personal Pay By Touch wallet, which is stored at secure IBM data centers. Pay By Touch chose S2 Systems' OpeN/2 platform as part of a larger technology initiative to build payment network infrastructure that will support top tier retail organizations and enable quicker store rollouts.

"Pay By Touch makes the checkout process faster, more convenient, and more secure than other payment methods by eliminating the need for consumers to present cards, checks or cash at the point of sale," Eric Bachman, COO of Pay By Touch. "S2 Systems' OpeN/2 is aligned with our technology strategy of broadening our end-to-end biometric authentication and payment processing capabilities to meet the needs of top tier retail organizations. Our joint efforts with S2 Systems will also facilitate larger commercial rollouts of Pay By Touch with a greater variety of payment options while helping retailers increase sales and lower transaction costs."

S2 Systems' OpeN/2 will be deployed on zSeries servers running Linux in an IBM "on demand" business environment utilizing WebSphere MQ for data mirroring, with initial applications for EFT, EBT, and EDC. With Pay By Touch, a simple finger scan allows consumers to access their payment method; card programs such as EBT or gift card and other types of transactions are immediately recognized and processed normally as if a card or check had been presented. The transactions are then routed to the appropriate payment networks based upon the payment method selected; the transaction data is stored and managed at a security-rich IBM data center. The Pay By Touch finger scanning technology doesn't store actual fingerprints; instead it creates a set of 40 data points that cannot be reverse engineered to a fingerprint.

"Pay By Touch is one of the most technologically innovative companies in the payments industry and we are happy to provide the improved scalability and performance that can help them grow their business," said Stephen Clark, president and CEO of S2 Systems. "Pay By Touch biometric authentication services and S2 Systems' OpeN/2 platform are designed for advanced payment systems that support ongoing efforts in the retail sector to improve the checkout experience, increase sales and reduce transaction costs. We are delighted to have Pay By Touch as an S2 Systems customer and look forward to helping them meet their business objectives."

S2 Systems' OpeN/2 enables retail organizations to grow their business by routing POS payment transactions through an open systems-based payment switch including credit, debit, check authorization, gift, prepaid and EBT transactions. S2 Systems industry partners such as IBM and Pay By Touch are creating the payment infrastructure of tomorrow by utilizing OpeN/2 to leverage best-of-breed technologies.

Several major retail chains are now in implementation and pilot stage and experiencing impressively high customer adoption rates for the tokenless Pay By Touch system. S2 Systems' OpeN/2 will be implemented in existing IBM e-business Hosting™ infrastructure and is expected to handle more than 20 million transactions per month.
