PDAC Welcomes Newly Appointed Ministers Oliver and Rickford and Thanks Minister Flaherty for His Years of Service

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - March 19, 2014) - The Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) congratulates Minister Joe Oliver, Canada's new Minister of Finance, and Minister Greg Rickford, who was appointed Minister of Natural Resources. PDAC also congratulates and thanks The Honourable Jim Flaherty for his years of dedicated public service.

"We are pleased to congratulate Minister Joe Oliver on his new position at the Department of Finance. Minister Oliver was an exceptional Minister of Natural Resources and his impressive skills and experience have undoubtedly equipped him to excel in his new role," says PDAC President Rodney Thomas. "Minister Greg Rickford has long demonstrated his passion for the natural resources sector and is ideally-suited to lead the portfolio. The PDAC congratulates him on his new responsibilities."

Ministers Oliver and Rickford were sworn into their new portfolios today in Ottawa following yesterday's resignation by Minister of Finance Jim Flaherty.

"The PDAC thanks The Honourable Jim Flaherty for his years of service," adds Thomas. "During his tenure, Minister Flaherty oversaw many polices that strengthened Canada's mineral exploration and development sector, including the renewal of the important Mineral Exploration Tax Credit (METC). On behalf of the PDAC, we wish him all the best in his future endeavours."

"As an industry that employs 418,000 Canadians and contributes over $35 billion in GDP yearly, the Canadian minerals industry plays an integral role in the Canadian economy," says PDAC Executive Director Ross Gallinger. "We look forward to continuing to work together with Ministers Oliver and Rickford to ensure that the Canadian mineral exploration and development sector remains a global powerhouse and source of Canadian pride."
