PDTi Expands Management, Industry Veterans Join Advisory Board

ESL provider announces Business Advisory Board and new Software Director

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(CCNMatthews - Dec. 19, 2006) - Productivity Design Tools (PDTi), a provider of electronic system level (ESL) tools for FPGA and ASSP development teams, today announced the hiring of Ian Hyatt as the Director of Software Development, and the appointment of Barry Jinks and Peter Wilson to PDTi's Advisory Board.

Mr. Hyatt brings to PDTi a wide range of knowledge and expertise surrounding enterprise software development; his responsibilities at PDTi include implementing best-practices and providing software leadership as PDTi continues to expand its product offerings. Mr. Jinks has participated in the founding management teams and boards of directors of several technology startups, and Mr. Wilson is a 20 year semiconductor and EDA industry veteran. The Advisory Board's role is to provide further assistance to PDTi's growing success in bringing PDTi's family of products to FPGA and ASSP developers.

PDTi's first product - SpectaReg - is a standards-based ESL solution that simplifies register-map development and implementation for chip-development teams in a cost effective way. Traditionally, maintaining register-maps has been a tedious and error-prone process; something so simple as changing a bit-field requires updates to hardware, software, functional testing and documentation. With SpectaReg, developers specify register-maps in a rich and intuitive UI and then, with the click of a mouse, automatically generate implementation deliverables like Verilog and VHDL for RTL-design, C/C++ for embedded software, datasheet content for documentation, and functional tests for verification and validation. Specification data is stored in an extended version of the SPIRIT IP-XACT metadata standard and processed by SpectaReg's flexible modeling and template-based framework. This enables customization of memory-mapped hardware types, coding styles and generated languages. With outputs generated from a single-source, any specification changes are easily implemented and automatically updated across the team, accelerating time-to-market while eliminating errors.

PDTi also offers unique register-map development services to convert register-map specifications into verified RTL, embedded software and datasheet segments based on customer requirements. These services are particularly aimed at memory-maps for system FPGAs and standard-based ASSP platforms.

Future PDTi offerings will be added via the SpectaGen Framework, a powerful methodology and tool infrastructure for collaboratively specifying IP and automatically generating implementation deliverables. SpectaGen gives all team-members easy and early access to the design and eliminates costly communication errors. By decoupling specifications from implementation details, SpectaGen enables independent reuse of both specifications and code-generation templates. In addition, specifications can be reused for porting between languages and platforms, and common templates are reused to provide consistency across components and projects.

About Ian Hyatt

Prior to joining PDTi, Ian was a Senior Software Developer at BlackBoard / WebCT, the world's leading provider of e-learning systems to educational institutions. Ian holds a Bachelor Degree in Computer Science from the University of British Columbia. He is a Sun Certified Java Programmer and has presented at the Java Architects Special Interest Group (JA-SIG).

About Barry Jinks

Barry Jinks worked at LSI Logic Corporation in technical and management roles, subsequently moving to Spectrum Signal Processing, where as CEO he took the company public. Mr. Jinks is currently President and CEO of Colligo Networks Inc. Mr. Jinks holds degrees in Science and Electrical Engineering from UBC, where he won several academic awards. He was named Ernst and Young's 1997 Pacific Region 'Entrepreneur of the Year' for High Technology and is a member of several technology and advisory groups.

About Peter Wilson

Peter Wilson's career includes marketing and sales positions at Philips Electronics and LSI Logic, followed by senior management positions at EDA startup Cadabra Design Automation and home networking specialist Cogency Semiconductor. In addition to his work in industry, Mr. Wilson has contributed as a member of the Board of Directors for Telecommunications Research (TR) Labs and Cogency Technology. Mr. Wilson holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Queens University.
