Peabody Dental Hygiene Team Undergoes Laser Gum Therapy Training

PEABODY, MA--(Marketwired - June 25, 2015) - The dental hygiene team at Contemporary Dentistry and Implantology, a premier Peabody dental implant center, is undergoing training to provide a new, advanced gum disease treatment technique.

Soft tissue laser-assisted periodontal therapy is a minimally invasive procedure that helps repair infected gums. Gum disease is a widespread issue and the leading cause of tooth loss. It also has been linked to potentially deadly health problems such as heart disease and diabetes.

“The laser treatment eliminates the need for traditional gum surgery, which can be very uncomfortable and have an extremely long recovery time,” said Dr. John Argeros, who operates Contemporary Dentistry and Implantology. “This advanced technology does not require a scalpel or sutures, and it sets the stage for quick gum rejuvenation.”

Laser-assisted gum surgery uses tiny fibers to gently clean the infected periodontal pocket. The use of the laser allows the teeth and gums to naturally reattach following the treatment. Dr. Argeros said the team plans to use laser gum therapy following traditional scaling and root planing, also known as a deep gum cleaning.

“This procedure aids in the body’s ability to heal after scaling and root planing, and it’s such a simple and pain-free way to help sterilize the periodontal pockets,” the Peabody dentist said.

Dr. Argeros, who is a graduate of Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, has served the Peabody community for more than 35 years. Contemporary Dentistry and Implantology offers All on 4 dental implants, implants for dentures, crowns, bridges, veneers, teeth whitening, sedation dentistry, and most recently, endodontics.

Dr. Argeros began incorporating dental implantology into his practice in the 1980s. His experienced and well-trained staff uses the latest technology to serve patients through paperless dental management software, CT scans, digital radiology, intra-oral cameras and CAD/CAM restorations. Contemporary Dentistry and Implantology uses the i-CAT, a Cone Beam Computerized Tomography scanning system that shows a complete scan in just nine seconds.

Dr. Argeros is one of a few hundred dentists in the world who holds a certification in dental implants from the American Board of Oral Implantology/Implant Dentistry. He also is the former president of the Massachusetts Dental Society of Anesthesiology. In 2009, Dr. Argeros earned the prestigious Fellowship in the American Academy of Implant Dentistry and was also appointed to the review board for the academy’s publication, The Journal of Oral Implantology. He is a member of the Massachusetts Dental Society, North Shore District Dental Society, Academy of Osseointegration, American Dental Society of Anesthesiology, American Dental Association and holds a Mastership in the International Congress of Oral Implantology. Dr. Argeros also has provided restorative dental treatment at the North Shore Medical Center Union Hospital since 1979.

Dr. Donald Plourde is a graduate of Merrimack College and Tufts University School of Dental Medicine and is a member of the Massachusetts Dental Society, North Shore District Dental Society and the American Dental Society. Dr. Plourde focuses on restorative dentistry and is certified in the Bicon, 3I and Branemark implant systems. He joined the practice in 1990.

Dr. Stephen Sozanski joined the practice in 2014. Dr. Sozanski is a 1981 graduate of Tufts Endodontic Program and recently moved from a practice in Newcastle, Maine. He had been with Contemporary Dentistry and Implantology for 10 years before his time in Maine. Dr. Sozanski will be available to patients on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
