Pearson VUE Selects Terracotta to Ensure Reliability of Worldwide Testing Service

Unique Approach to Java Clustering Allows Pearson VUE to Seamlessly Add Capacity to Support Booming Testing Business

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - April 21, 2008) - Terracotta, a leader in infrastructure software for enterprise Java scalability, today announced that Pearson VUE, a global leader in electronic testing for regulatory and certification boards, has deployed Terracotta's software following a thorough technology evaluation. Pearson VUE selected Terracotta to achieve scale and high performance for its web-based application, while reducing its cost of custom application coding.

Pearson VUE is using Terracotta's open source Java clustering solution to create a shared application memory store across multiple servers in Pearson VUE's Iowa City data center. The result: Pearson VUE can now easily add computing capacity to support its growing business.

"As a growing computer-based testing company, we rely on clustering technology to support our business," said Ron Lancaster, director of software development, Pearson VUE. "Terracotta powers a system of scalable, distributed software nodes, enabling a variety of services including the ability to process more test results on a daily basis. We couldn't be happier with Terracotta and the support we have received from the company throughout the implementation process."

Terracotta's Java clustering solution is an ideal solution for scaling critical applications, as it offers the performance of local memory with the high availability of a database. This eliminates the unyielding performance and reliability tradeoffs that constrain many Java applications today.

"Pearson VUE's decision to use Terracotta illustrates that we provide a critical technology for web-based businesses and applications that must support thousands of users," said Jeff Hartley, vice president of products at Terracotta. "As a company at the forefront of technology, Pearson VUE recognizes the value that Terracotta provides in supporting their complex data processing needs, which are a vital component to the growth of Pearson VUE's worldwide certification testing services."
