Peel Teacher Elected to ETFO Executive

Sharron Raymond Elected to ETFO Executive Attention: Assignment Editor, City Editor, Education Editor, News Editor TORONTO, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Aug. 17, 2005) -
Sharron Raymond was elected to the Executive of the Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario (ETFO) at the federation's annual meeting today. Raymond is a teacher with the Peel District School Board.

"ETFO is stepping boldly into tomorrow," Raymond told the 600 delegates attending the meeting. "It is a tomorrow filled with challenges that will require innovative, reasoned, and determined leadership."

"As we move forward we must continue to foster the new relationship with the government. As teachers we have a responsibility to provide quality education for all Ontario children. As well we must advocate both at home and internationally, for social justice issues, such as the elimination of poverty and a fair living wage," Raymond said.

Sharron Raymond is the president of the Peel ETFO Local. She has been a collective bargaining committee chair and chief negotiator for her local. She has also worked as a staff officer at the ETFO provincial office.

The Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario (ETFO) represents 65,000 public elementary school teachers and education workers across Ontario and is the largest teacher union in Canada outside Quebec.
