Peel's CUPE 966 Public Nurses Unit Reaches Tentative Agreement

BRAMPTON, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Jan. 28, 2011) - Public nurses working for the Region of Peel, represented by the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 966, reached a tentative settlement late yesterday with the administration averting a possible strike or lockout on January 31.

The bargaining committee for this unit will recommend the proposed settlement to the members by the end of next week.

"We are happy to have achieved our objective to improve our membership solidarity and to have gained some respect from our employer," said Mary-Jo Falle, President of CUPE 966.

Details of the proposed collective agreement will not be released until CUPE 966 Public Nurses Unit members have had an opportunity to review all details and vote on the recommendations. The Region of Peel Council will also have to vote to ratify the agreement.
