NATICK, MA--(Marketwired - Sep 4, 2013) - Interbit Data, a leading provider of software and services connecting people with information for more efficient healthcare, today announced that Pekin Hospital in Pekin, Illinois has selected NetSafe as its business continuance and downtime protection software. NetSafe automatically distributes up-to-date patient information from Pekin's McKesson healthcare information system (HCIS) to local network computers across the healthcare facility, enabling uninterrupted access to critical data during a system or network downtime.
Pekin Hospital conducts a four-hour downtime of its 125 servers each month to install windows updates, new software, perform maintenance and other tasks such as network wrap-outs. The healthcare facility has also experienced the occasional unplanned downtime of its servers during power outages. With NetSafe, Pekin Hospital can ensure that all clinicians across its facility have access to the most up-to-date patient information, particularly patient electronic medication administration records (eMARs).
"When we saw the NetSafe demonstration, we were very impressed, as NetSafe makes it very easy to find the information that you need when you need it, whether you are searching records data by patient or other criteria," said Dan Tharp, IT Director at Pekin Hospital. "The Snapshot reports alone are great, but NetSafe overall is an ideal solution and very cost-effective. The design is one we would create ourselves."
Once NetSafe is implemented, Pekin Hospital plans to use it for its main hospital system initially and then expand its use to physicians' offices. Located 20 minutes south of Peoria in central Illinois, Pekin Hospital is a 98-bed medical center providing advanced care and state-of-the-art diagnostic capabilities since 1913. Pekin Hospital has approximately 240 physicians in more than 26 medical specialties working closely with a highly credentialed nursing staff and healthcare professionals to care for patients.
NetSafe automatically distributes encrypted up-to-date patient information, such as eMARs, Master Patient indexes, Blood Bank Transfusion logs and other critical information from an HCIS to local computers in patient care areas. By enabling 24/7 access to critical patient information, NetSafe ensures that healthcare facilities maintain uninterrupted patient care during a system or network downtime.
