Pellion Technologies Appoints David Eaglesham as CEO

Former Chief Technology Officer at Leading Renewable-Energy Powerhouse First Solar to Lead Green Battery Start-Up

CAMBRIDGE, MA--(Marketwire - Jul 19, 2012) - Pellion Technologies, a leading clean-tech company dedicated to the world-wide replacement of lithium-ion batteries with greener, higher power, energy and density magnesium-ion batteries, today announced the appointment of Dr. Dave Eaglesham as Chief Executive Officer. Former CEO Gerbrand Ceder, will resume his full-time role at MIT while retaining a technology leadership role with the company.

"Dave's wealth of experience in bringing technologies from the laboratory into commercial deployment will be a great asset for Pellion. His appointment marks the successful completion of Pellion's early technology goals and bodes very well for its transition to the next stage," said Gerd Ceder, former CEO of Pellion Technologies since 2009.

A world-renowned leader who has repeatedly fostered innovation, moving multiple technologies from the laboratory to market; Dr. Eaglesham most recently dedicated six years of his career as Chief Technology Officer of First Solar, a leading global provider of photovoltaic (PV) solar systems. In this role, Eaglesham led the company to multiple world records for Cadmium-Telluride (CdTe) cell and module efficiency, while growing from a small company with less than $50M in revenues to a world-leading manufacturer of thin film PV with close to $4B in revenues. Prior to joining First Solar, Eaglesham held senior leadership positions at Bell Labs, Applied Materials, and LLNL, during which he demonstrated an ability to create and lead teams bridging the gap to create disruptive technology from fundamental scientific breakthroughs.

"I am tremendously excited to be joining Pellion at this pivotal time. Lithium-ion will not be the last battery chemistry ever developed, and I spent a lot of time in diligence on various alternatives before identifying Pellion as having the greatest long-term potential moving forward," said Dave Eaglesham. "The company's underlying technology gives it the capability to go to energy densities far beyond lithium, and the technical team is outstanding. I look forward to working with Gerd and the rest of the team on making the potential a reality."

Founded by a team of MIT researchers in 2009, Pellion is backed by top-tier venture-capital, with funding from DoE's elite ARPA-E program. The company has leveraged computational materials predictions to identify novel proprietary materials that are enabling a new class of "multivalent" ion batteries. These proprietary materials have achieved multiple records in lab-scale performance tests. With the appointment of Dave Eaglesham, Pellion marks its transition to the next phase of technology commercialization.
