SCRANTON, PA--(Marketwired - December 13, 2016) - Penn Foster, a leading skills solutions organization focused on providing competencies, credentials, career pathways and employment matching for today's evolving workforce, today announced it has now graduated more than 1,000 opportunity youth and adult learners from its Workforce Investment Boards (WIBs) partnerships across the country.
As part of its ongoing commitment to skills attainment, Penn Foster has been providing career pathway opportunities to help unemployed or underemployed individuals through local workforce boards in states such as Arkansas, California, and Wisconsin. Through these partnerships, more than 1,000 individuals have earned their Penn Foster high school diploma, career school diploma or college degree in areas such as auto repair, criminal justice, veterinary technician, HVAC-R technician, and medical billing and coding. Workers learn in-demand skills which improves the quality of the workforce, enabling local businesses to succeed.
"Workforce Investment Boards are playing an increasingly critical role in our country's economic growth," said Frank Britt, CEO, Penn Foster, Inc. "Together we can create new efficiencies in skills development and provide real outcomes within communities. Through our extensive portfolio, Penn Foster is able to deliver high-growth, occupation-focused training programs for each workforce board to fill the needs of that particular labor market."
Job seekers come to WIBs with varying work experience and education, but with a common goal to gain relevant knowledge and additional skills to achieve economic mobility. Penn Foster now works with more than 100 workforce organizations and over 200 Career Centers under the federal Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), which became law in July 2014.
