Penn State Deploys New Multi-Space Parking Pay Stations From Digital Payment Technologies

Meters Lay Foundation for Complete Parking Overhaul as University Aims to Enhance Customer Convenience, Decrease Maintenance and Increase Revenue

VANCOUVER, BC--(Marketwired - Apr 8, 2014) - Digital Payment Technologies (DPT) announced today that The Pennsylvania State University (Penn State) has installed new multi-space parking pay stations at its University Park campus in State College, Pa. These LUKE II multi-space pay stations provide a high-tech infrastructure delivering a better parking experience for consumers and a more efficient system for the university.

The decision to install multi-space pay stations stemmed from the university's desire to offer their students, faculty and guests a more flexible and convenient parking experience, including more payment options. The university also sought to decrease maintenance, increase revenue, and to better manage their event parking.

The new pay stations primarily operate in Pay-by-License Plate (PBL) mode, with some using Pay-by-Space (PBS). The pay stations are also equipped with the Extend-by-Phone feature, enabling the consumer to receive a text message reminder when parking is about to expire and add time by responding to the text message. In the future, the university plans to adopt technologies aimed to further increase consumer convenience such as pay-by-phone and License Plate-Enabled Parking (LEP).

"These multi-space pay stations from DPT represent the next step in a planned modernization process of the university's parking infrastructure," said Ryan Givens, assistant director of transportation services at Penn State. "We chose DPT's LUKE II pay stations because they are user-friendly, had many of the features we were seeking, and easily integrate with consumer convenience technologies such as pay-by-phone services, and LionCash+. In addition, many of our users are already familiar with the technology, as similar pay stations have been deployed in the adjacent Borough of State College."

The LUKE II pay stations were sold and installed by Signature Control Systems, LLC, a leading parking equipment and vehicle access control provider, which also provides local install, service and support for DPT.

The pay stations accept multiple forms of payment, including coins, credit cards and the university's LionCash+ campus card.
