Penn State Selects iclicker's Classroom Response System

iclicker Offered University-Wide Starting in Fall 2011

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - May 26, 2011) - After piloting the top classroom response systems, Penn State has selected iclicker as the centrally supported system for its 20 undergraduate campuses. Starting in fall 2011, iclicker will provide Penn State's faculty and students with its reliable, simple and intuitive polling solution to increase interactivity and advance learning.

Penn State's Information Technology Services was looking for a response system that was straightforward, simple, and built with faculty needs in mind. iclicker's response system was selected because it offered a short learning curve and organically fit their needs.

"At Penn State, we needed a clicker system that was both easy to use and flexible enough to support our wide-ranging teaching methodologies," said Dave Test, Technology Classroom Support, Penn State Information Technology Services. "With iclicker, our faculty can easily implement clickers into their courses, adding myriad engagement opportunities with their students, but without the steep learning curve that we've experienced in the past. iclicker gives us rock solid reliability and all of the features we need, without all of the headaches of other clicker systems."

Penn State faculty members will use iclicker for upper and lower level classes in a wide range of academic disciplines including statistics, engineering mechanics, nursing, astronomy, physics, biology, and sociology.

"We designed iclicker to be simple, easy-to-use, pedagogically sound and inexpensive. When these four criteria are met, the technology virtually disappears and learning comes to the forefront," said Troy Williams, a vice president at global publisher Macmillan and general manager of Macmillan New Ventures, the division that includes iclicker. "We are thrilled that they chose iclicker as the best choice to facilitate student engagement and active learning."

With 44,000 students on its flagship campus at University Park, and campuses throughout Pennsylvania, Penn State is ranked among the top 15 public universities nationally.
