Pentaho Corporation Opens San Francisco Office to Meet Growing Demand

Strong Customer Adoption During Downturn Fuels Growth for Open Source BI Leader

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - August 21, 2009) - Pentaho Corporation, the commercial open source alternative for business intelligence (BI), today announced the opening of its newest office in San Francisco. The expansion is in response to growing demand for Pentaho offerings, and represents the latest in a series of 2009 achievements and milestones.


-- Pentaho announced the opening of a new office in San Francisco, an expansion in response to growing customer demand for Pentaho's open source business intelligence solutions.

-- Despite the economic downturn, Pentaho has thrived in 2009. With its proven BI suite available at a fraction of the cost of traditional, proprietary solutions, Pentaho consistently wins against competitors and is being selected by customers across all industries as the BI suite of choice.


-- Pentaho announced additional large-scale deployments, including the world's largest open source BI deployment ever at European retailer Specsavers, a multi-terabyte web analytics application at The Swiss Colony, and another joint win with Teradata at $4.9B U.S. retailer Sheetz.

-- Pentaho delivered additional proprietary BI replacements, including replacing Hyperion at Otto International, with other proprietary replacements at Sircon and Harris Computer and another competitive win over Informatica at Cardiac Science.

-- The company also saw strong adoption among small- and medium-sized businesses, showcasing customers like Centro, a media services firm who is driving competitive advantage in a fiscally responsible way by choosing commercial open source BI from Pentaho.


-- Cloud computing attracted Pentaho customers like Nutricia North America, a division of Group Danone, who provided a great example of why customers are running the Pentaho BI Suite on the Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2). Implemented by Pentaho Certified Partner OpenBI, the application integrates data from disparate systems to provide analytical insight across Nutricia's product lines, customers, and geographies.

-- Pentaho BI Suite Version 3 delivered self-service dashboards for business users, flexible deployment options for on-premise or Cloud BI as well as new flash-based charting and dashboard framework features contributed by Pentaho's thriving global community. Pentaho's modules now account for more than 5 million lifetime downloads.

-- Pentaho announced Pentaho Data Integration 3.2, transforming the economics of high-performance ETL and Cloud BI. The product delivered industry-first cloud deployment enhancements such as dynamic parallelism to support elastic, multi-server ETL configurations, and a new cloud benchmark and test suite.

-- Pentaho was named a finalist for "Best Commercial Open Source Project" the Community Choice Awards. According to, "This category recognizes the best company-managed open source project with commercial intent."


-- Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) partners like Sircon showcased Pentaho's multi-tenant capabilities for SaaS applications, and the advantages of Pentaho's commercial open source model for SaaS and OEM partners. Pentaho also demonstrated significant traction and growth in its channel business, showcasing partners like Spidex Software who was able to add incremental revenue streams and enhance its competitive position by embedding Pentaho's BI suite.

-- Sun Microsystems joined forces with Pentaho and Infobright, the open source data warehousing company, to deliver a hardware and software solution that lowers the cost of entry and simplifies deployment of a powerful data warehousing and BI infrastructure.

-- Pentaho and Red Hat partnered to significantly expand its global distribution capabilities through the Open Source Channel Alliance, led by Red Hat and SYNNEX Corporation. The partnership enables SYNNEX VARs to distribute Pentaho's entire product portfolio.

-- Pentaho established its Gold Reseller program, created to support growth in established and emerging global markets. Gold Resellers combine their business intelligence expertise and their local cultural and business understanding to provide the best possible tailored service to their end customers.
