The combination of these improvements affords a high sensitivity level of ISO 204800, a continuous shooting rate of up to 6 fps, and Full HD 1080p video recording capabilities. These shooting capabilities are benefitted by the SAFOX X 11-point hybrid auto focus system, which includes nine cross-type sensors for added precision and focusing speed in difficult lighting conditions.

The Pentax K-70 also features sensor-shift-type Shake Reduction image stabilization which compensates for up to four stops of camera shake when shooting handheld. This technology also enables the use of Pixel Shift Resolution for increasing effective resolution, and provides a selectable anti-aliasing filter to simulate the effects of an optical low-pass filter, when needed.
The K-70 camera is characterized by its distinctly rugged build, which is dust- and weather-resistant, as well as freeze-proof for use in temperatures down to 14ºF. A 3.0" 921k-dot vari-angle LCD monitor is featured, which facilitates working from high and low angles, and also sports a unique outdoor viewing setting, as well as a night vision red light setting. Additionally, built-in Wi-Fi permits wireless image transfer and remote camera control from a mobile device via the Image Sync app.
The Pentax K-70 is available in both black and silver, body only, or coupled with the existing 18-135mm lens.
