People Power Awarded AESP 2015 Energy Award for Outstanding Achievement in Energy Efficient Technology Deployment

Presence Pro Energy Program for Oahu Residents Recognized for Its Technology and Demonstrated Ability to Reduce Energy Consumption in Hawaii

ORLANDO, FL--(Marketwired - Feb 10, 2015) - People Power, a technology and user engagement company focused on providing apps, cloud and mobile services for the Internet of Things (IoT), announces that its Presence Pro Energy Program for Oahu Residents has been awarded the Association of Energy Services Professionals (AESP) 2015 Energy Award for Outstanding Achievement in Energy Efficient Technology Deployment.

The inconvenient truth is that, for most people, saving energy in the home is not a top priority. However, People Power discovered that residents do feel a responsibility to secure their homes, as well as protect their children and pets while they are away.

In response, People Power developed its Presence app to protect the welfare and valuables of homeowners while they are away from home, while also incorporating engaging energy management features as an added bonus within the app. Presence uses old phones to provide video alerts when there is movement in an area of the home. To date, Presence has recorded over 10 million video alerts, and the app continues to grow in popularity. The goal is that once users get in the habit of using their smart phones to check in on their homes, they will also begin to take note of their energy usage.

Utilizing the interactive Presence app, The Presence Pro Energy Program was established to help Oahu residents become more aware of their energy use as well as provide them the opportunity to receive significant savings on their energy bills. The one-year pilot program is a collaboration between People Power and the Energy Excelerator, an accelerator program that is based in Hawaii.

Through a combination of weekly competitions designed to challenge the community, and smart home energy tools such as Monster Central smart plugs, People Power enables participants to have better conversations around energy. Participants have access to personal data usage from anywhere, making it simple to understand and control energy consumption.

"Using Presence as the vehicle to create change in consumers' energy habits, People Power's mission is to create more energy conscious consumers. The goal of the program is to foster a sense of energy responsibility among participants and their communities," said Gene Wang, CEO of People Power. "We are honored to be recognized by AESP for our commitment to developing an effective energy efficient technology program and want to thank the Energy Excelerator for enabling us to launch this initiative. We hope to continue to inspire consumers to be more aware of their energy use, ultimately creating a more responsible, energy-conscious world."

"The high cost of electricity in Hawaii makes energy efficiency especially important for local families," said Dawn Lippert, Director of the Energy Excelerator. "We find and fund innovative startups with the potential to positively impact Hawaii's energy system, and People Power's program is a great example of a novel approach to engaging local residents in saving energy."

AESP's 2015 Energy Awards Program recognizes excellence in the energy services field. People Power and other award recipients have created innovative and measurably effective programs that have led to energy savings and reduced pressure on the grid.
