People Power Fuelled Jet at UPS, United Way Fundraiser

Attention: Assignment Editor, City Editor, Media Editor, News Editor, Photo Editor MISSISSAUGA, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Sept. 29, 2005) - UPS Canada 'pulled together' Saturday by hosting its fourth annual United Way Jet Pull event at the Hamilton International Airport. 15 teams consisting of 20 people hauled a Cargojet Boeing 727 aircraft to raise funds for United Way of Burlington and Greater Hamilton.

"The support from the local community volunteers and event participants is what keeps the Jet Pull event successful every year," says UPS Canada President Glenn Rice. "This year, our participants were able to raise almost $20,000 in pledges, topping our last event's results by 33 per cent."

Pearson Airport's winning team will donate 20 per cent of their proceeds to the charity of their choice; UPS's 2nd place team will donate 10 per cent and the Hamilton Airport's 3rd place team 5 per cent to the charity of their choice. All other proceeds will be donated to United Way.

"Given that one in five families in Hamilton are living near or below the poverty line and one in three children in Ontario go to school hungry everyday, it is great to see organizations like UPS stepping forward to build stronger and healthier communities," says United Way CEO of Burlington and Greater Hamilton, Darrel Skidmore.

Organizations participating in the UPS, United Way Hamilton Jet Pull include: UPS, United Way, Hamilton Health Sciences, and other Hamilton airport neighbours.

The Pearson Airport team had the fastest pull with a time of 9.72 seconds, demonstrating their strength and stamina in pulling the 115,000 pound aircraft a distance of 25 feet.
